Before we start, make sure to get a copy of the owner’s manual which you can download at www.sonnysdirect.com and review all the safety information related to this procedure.
Gather the tools and supplies you’ll need which are:
- Safety Glasses.
- Hand puller (come along)
- Hammer and cutting pliers.
Once you have everything ready the first thing you need to do is:
- Lockout the powerpack or VFD on MCC
- Release the air pressure to the shocks using the tension valve on the control panel.
- Using a crowbar, slide the carriage all the way forward to loosen the chain.
- Stretch out the straps or come along.
- Connect the straps (come along) using 2 extra log chain links a short distance apart on either side of the chain.
- Compress the chain using the come-along to shorten the distance between rollers and create slack.
- For the log chain, you must replace the 11 links section with a 9 links section or a 9 links section with a 7. When you are re-installing the chain, make sure the new section is not twisted.
- For X458, bring the 2-face section to the center of the single link, compress the 2-face link and twist the center pin, that’s how you take it apart. Remember, with this type of chain you will always have to remove 2 links.
- For SC78, remove links from the master link section, remove the cotter pin and pin in order to remove the link, then reconnect the ends of the chain using pin and cotter, replace cotter if damaged.
- Release the come along, remove the pry bar and don’t forget to remove the 2 links you were using to pull with.
- Flip the tension valve back to the on position to allow the chain to be tensioned.
Make sure all tools and people are clear, remove lockout from MCC and override power pack or VFD and watch conveyor run.
