The mitter is the one piece of equipment that still cleans even though its not working. Weather you have a side to side mitter or a front to back, the baskets are still driven by a gearbox and motor. The shaft on the gearbox and motor are connected by a love joy coupler or a Delrin chain coupler.
If the Mitter is not moving check the following:
- Check the breaker for the electric motor that is located in the motor control center, and make sure it is not tripped. If the switch is tripped, reset the breaker and run the equipment again. If the MSP trips again, you may have a faulty motor. Contact an electrician...
- Check the coupler that connects the motor to the turbine and make sure that piece is not damaged or broken. The Delrin chain or love joy coupler is meant to break in case of a motor or gearbox failure. The old style winsmith/motor combo uses a white Delrin chain coupler which will snap if the gearbox or motor seized up. The newer style Winsmith gearbox/motor combo, uses a love joy coupler which is located in the bell housing connecting the motor and gearbox, this piece will also wear or snap
- Check the Pitman arm and/or the drive basket and make sure the drive arm is connected. Drive arm should be connected with a bolt to the pitman arm.
