My top brush does not want to come down, why?
NOTE: There is no air used on the top brush to assist it to come down. Due to the possibility of damaging vehicles, we highly recommend not to use air to assist the brush to come down onto the vehicle. Adjustment of the weights is crucial to the functionality of the brush.
If your top brush is not coming down, do the following:
- Before we start making any adjustments to the brush lets first make sure that the rod on the cylinder has been greased. If the below has been done, skip to the next step
- Purchase lithium grease,
- Take the hoses off the cylinder.
- Extend the rod, and apply lithium grease to the rod.
- Work the rod in and out a few times - this will spread the grease throughout the entire rod and lubricate the rod wiper seal.
- Once you have done that a few times, wipe any excess grease off the rod,
- Attach the hoses to the cylinder and test the unit
- Adjust the counter weights on the brush. The counter weights assist the brush to come down smoothly onto the body of the vehicle. If the weights are not properly adjusted, it can cause the brush not to come down or come down to fast on the vehicle.
Note: Before adjusting the weights make sure to mark the spot of the weights, just in case you have to bring them back to their original position.
- Mark the current spot of the weights before adjusting them
- Loosen the two bolts that are holding the weights in place.
- NOTE: Adjust one side at a time.
- Proceed to move the weights with the adjusting bolt to the desired position
- Test the brush.
NOTE: IF there are too many weights in the chamber the brush may not come down. There should be approximately 8-9 weights in the chamber. Each weight weighs around 100 LBS, please be careful when removing weights from the chamber.
