Why is my pressure gauge on my power pack fluctuating?
Fluctuating pressures on your power pack is not a problem unless you see the issue transferring over to the piece of equipment.
As an example we will use the conveyor.
Its ok for the pressure gauge to fluctuate a little while the conveyor is running, with or without a load, but its a problem if you see the following:
- Conveyor chain jerking
- CPH(CARS PER HOUR) numbers fluctuating on the Hydrapulse unit
- High fluctuating range on the gauge (EX:400-800PSI)
These are signs that there may be an issue with your equipment.
If you notice that the pressure gauge on your power pack keeps fluctuating and you have noticed the above, check the following:
- Check the sun gear on the heco hydraulic motor
- Check the shaft on the heco hydraulic motor
- Check the gears in the heco gear box
If any of the gears strip, it will cause the parts to start slipping causing the pressure gauge to fluctuate. This usually occurs with older systems, but can happen to newer systems as well.
If you have checked any of the above and you have found that the gears have been worn, switch the part(s) as soon as possible.
NOTE: If any of the gears have been worn down you will now have metal shavings in the oil of your power pack. It is recommended to change the oil and filter on the power to avoid any of the metal to work itself down to the new parts.
