Why are my brushes breaking mirrors? Why am I ripping front license plates?

Making sure that your wraps are properly adjusted plays a big part on how the brush is going to work against the body of a vehicle. Weekly and monthly maintenance are very important to life of the equipment and wash.

If the brush is too aggressive, check the following:

  • Check your pressure setting on the regulator
  • Check brush RPM
    •  See chart below for equipment settings
    • Conveyor CPH
      Wrap Brush RPM
      Air PSI PS
      Air PSI DS
      50-70 CPH
      70-75 RPM

      80-85 RPM
      0-5 PSI
      0-5 Psi
      80-90 CPH
      85-90 RPM
      5-15 PSI
      5-10 PSI
      90-125 CPH
      90-95 RPM
      15-25 PSI
      10-15 PSI
  • Check hanger bearings to make sure they are leveled

NOTE: The hanger bearings are used to pitch or level the wrap arms.  Pitching the arms towards the conveyor will make the brush less aggressive on the sides and the back of the vehicle. Pitching the bearings towards the tunnel walls will make the brush more aggressive towards the side and the rear of the vehicle. This adjustment is only recommended for chain speeds over 150CPH.

SEE BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PROPERLY ADJUST THE HANGER BEARINGS

1. TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE ON THE SIDE AND BACK OF THE VEHICLE: Adjust the bottom pillow block bearing away from the center of the tunnel. Move in 1/8 inch increments at a time.

2. TO DECREASE THE PRESSURE ON THE SIDE AND BACK OF THE VEHICLE: Adjust the bottom pillow block bearing towards the center of the tunnel. Move in 1/8 inch increments at a time.

Cloth penetration should be about three to four inches on the flat surface of the car. Each of the brushes should cover about two thirds of the back of the vehicle, overlapping in the center.

If you just replaced your restrict-o-flex, make sure they are in the correct side of the equipment

See below for proper positioning:

If you are ripping front license plates, check the following:

  • Adjust the spring bumper stop
    • Depending on what position you have the bumper stop positioned, it will cause the brush to be more or less aggressive on the front and the sides of the vehicle.  The three position bumper stop can be adjusted by removing the pin and cotter and moving the bumper to any of the three holes.  Moving the bumper forward will make the brush more aggressive on the front and the side of the vehicle.  Moving the bumper back will make the brush less aggressive on the front and the side of the vehicle.

NOTE: This adjustment should only be made on the passenger side of the brush.
