Why are my rollers jamming at the entrance of my conveyor?

There are a number of reasons why a roller jam would occur at the entrance of the conveyor.  Anywhere from a bad cylinder to worn out chain.

Causes for entrance roller jams:

  • Worn Cylinder UHMW cap
    • This is one of the most common parts that will cause a roller jam.  The UHMW after time will wear causing the cap to get smaller.  Since the cap is smaller, the cylinders stroke shortens which in turn will not allow the fork to raise to the proper height and allow the roller to easily come up onto the top deck.
  • Faulty cylinder
    • Make sure the cylinders rod is extending far enough to bring the fork up to its proper position
  • Worn hanger bearings
    • Worn hanger bearings will cause play at the fork, causing the fork to get sloppy.
  • Dirty or bad slide shaft
    • If the carriage is not lubricated, the slide shafts will rust and/or get dirty causing the carriage to seize.  On an air take up conveyor, the slide shaft should be moving back and forth.  The back and forth movement keeps tension on the chain.
  • Bad Shocks
    • The shocks on an air take up conveyor keeps the carriage moving back and forth helping keep tension on the chain.  Faulty shocks will not allow the carriage to move back and forth
  • Worn top deck
    • After time the top deck of the conveyor will get worn due to the fork constantly hitting it. Purchase the pieces and re-weld them onto the conveyor "Refer to your Sonny's big book, under the conveyor section for the top deck weldment"
  • Worn chain and rollers
    • After some time the chain and rollers will wear and cause the chain to get loose and the rollers to jam. A loose chain can cause the rollers to jam.
