Why is there oil leaking from my power pack tank?
There are different reasons why you would have oil on your power pack, oil creeping from the intake pipes to a bad seal on the pump.
- If the leak is coming from the pump or it looks like its coming from the motor:
Chances are a seal has gone bad on the pump. Contact Sonny's with your pump part number and order a new seal kit. The seal kit will provide the O-rings/gaskets necessary to repair the leak on the pump
- Little puddle of oil on the pipe gasket:
The oil that accumulates on the pipe gasket is normal. This oil comes from inside of the power pack tank and travels up from the pipe.
- If the leak is coming from one of the fittings on the pipe:
Usually when there is an oil leak coming from the fitting, it means that the flare on the fitting has been cracked due to it being over tightened.
NOTE: JIC fittings are a type of flare fittings machined with a 37 degree flare seating surface. Over tightening these types of fittings will crack the flare and damage the fitting. The proper way to install a JIC fittings is to hand tighten the fitting first then a 1/4 turn with a wrench.
