The manifold on my pump is cracked....
What is the first thing that a carwash employee/operator does when their prep-gun starts losing pressure? Go to the un-loader and crank up the pressure, right? Raising the pressure on the un-loader will provide more pressure to the gun, but by doing this you are causing more harm than good. If you are planning to use the same un-loader on a new pump, make sure to release all the pressure first before taking it off the defective pump. Installing an un-loader with a compressed spring on a new pump will cause back pressure which will likely damage/crack the pump head. Excessive back pressure can cause the pump head to crack/break.
Things to do before replacing a pump:
- Release all the pressure on the un-loader by adjusting the spring tensioner counter clock wise.
- Replace the pump
- Install the un-loader and compress the spring to proper working pressure
NOTE: To extend the life of you pump, we recommend to use no more than 80% of the capacity of the pump.
Example: 10gpm 1000 psi pump, use a max of 8gpm and 800psi
Using the 80% rule will extend the use of your nozzles and prolong the life of the pump.
