How old are your chain and rollers?

Once your chain and rollers hit a certain wear mark, you will start having issue. Evaluate the age of your chain and rollers by car count, not time.

Determining how long a set of chain and roller will last is unknown, this is due to how each car wash operator maintains their car wash.

Example: In one year operator (A) could wash 80,000 cars in a year while operator (B) washes 280,000.

Ask Yourself:

  • How often are you replacing links on your chain?
  • How often is your chain or roller links breaking?
  • How often is the chain coming off the sprocket?
  • How often are the rollers getting stuck in the conveyor?
  • Are your rollers riding to one side of the conveyor?

With some chains, like the X458 AKA Dog Bone Chain, the pins in the chain will twist causing the chain to get tight on the carriage making the operator add links to the chain.  When you add the links to the chain to make it spacing correct, then the chain gets too loose causing the operator to take links out. This effect with the chain getting tight and loose is caused by the pins twisting in the bar.

Log Chain has similar effect, but is caused when the inner part of the chain links wear.

The above bullets are signs that it may be time to replace your chain and rollers.

NOTE: When replacing the chain and rollers, make sure to always replace the sprockets and/or drums at the same time to avoid any issues in the future.

**Using caustic chemicals, like acids, will deteriorate the chain and rollers prematurely**
